Welcome to Class 1's page
Teacher: Miss Uglow
Support staff: Miss Kitto (Monday-Wednesday)
Mrs Stevens (Thursday-Friday)
PE days: During Spring term, Class 1 will have their PE sessions on a Monday and a Thursday. As always please can children come to school wearing their PE kit on those days.
Help at home:
Each week on a Friday, children will bring home a new reading book. This will be the book that they focussed on in their 'guided reading' sessions. They will have already had three sessions on this book, so this is an opportunity for them to celebrate their reading at home.
Children will also bring home a book each week that they will have chosen from our school library. These will be changed on a Monday. Please ensure library books come back into school each Monday, so children can change it.
Just like Autumn term, children will continue to bring home 'tricky words' that we have learnt in Phonics. These are words that are not decodable yet for year Receptions- it would be fantastic if they can be practised at home so children feel confident at recognising them.
Spring Term:
The theme for this half term is, 'On the Farm'. Our learning will be centred around this exciting topic. The children will explore life on a farm, learning about different farm animals, their babies, the sounds they make and how they are cared for. We will also look at where food comes from and why farms are important in producing crops. Through stories, songs, role play, art and practical activities, the children will develop their reading, writing and speaking skills, using farm-themed vocabulary and simple sentences. In maths, we will practise counting, sorting and problem-solving using animals and farm objects. We will also enjoy creative activities such as painting, crafting and music inspired by farm life.
The work we do this half term will lead onto our topic after half term, which is 'Traditional Tales'. We will look at a range of traditional tales and identify the similar features that we find in the stories. Our focus story will be 'The Three Little Pigs', whereby we will practise retelling the story and acting it out. This will help us remember the parts of the story before writing our own versions at the end of Spring term. Alongside our literacy work, we will also be carrying out an 'understanding the world' challenge where we will have to use skills like, designing, creating and evaluating.
