Class 1
After a fantastic first term together we are excited to welcome seven new children into our class this January. To start off our time together this term we will be learning about ‘Space’. We have already thought of lots of questions we want to answer including how space rockets fly, how you eat in space and why do things float around in space and not here? If you think of anything else that you would like to find out about, let us know!
There are lots of things to look forward to this term, including a brilliant ‘Science Week’ at the end of this half term where we will be finding out about SOUND from doing lots of different experiments and meeting interesting people who know all about making sounds!
Homework will still be given out on a Friday and needs to come back to us on the following Wednesday please. If you want to join football club bring your kit (including shin pads) on a Wednesday. This runs from 2.30pm and you will be ready to go home at normal time!
Please make sure you bring your outdoor clothes and Wellington boots on Tuesdays – we will be doing outside activities and after half term we will be doing Forest School again! It would be a good idea if you could have a pair of wellies at school all the time in a carrier bag on you peg. We are outside every day at some time and it would help to keep your shoes clean.
We are taking part in a multi skills tournament on 3rd February in Woolsery so you will all need your Hartland School PE kits ready.
We can’t wait to have lots of fun learning with you this term!

Class 2
Welcome to the spring term Class 2!
This term our topic is ‘Space’ followed by a mini topic on ‘Dinosaurs’. We have thought of lots of questions that we want to find the answers to and we have already begun to do this. If you have any space or dinosaur resources you wish to bring in to show the rest of the class please do so.
We have some exciting activities coming up throughout the term, including a Science Week starting on the 8th February 2010, where we will be taking part in lots of experiments and activities involving sound.
Our P.E days are still the same as last term (Tuesday and Friday) and homework will still be given out on a Friday and needs to be in by the following Wednesday.
I am looking forward to having another fun term with you!

Class 3
It’s good to all be back and settled in after the slightly longer Christmas break than expected! I’m looking forward to a term that we can get stuck into a new topic and enjoy some exciting visits and events.
Our topic this term is Space, and we will be discovering all sorts of things ranging from the solar system to astronauts, from rockets to moon buggies. If you have any books to share information with us it would be great if you could bring them – please name them first to prevent losses!
Also coming up this term are the visits for year 5’s to Brownsham Woods, and a Science Week for the whole school starting 8th February. The theme for this is Sound, and we will be investigating various questions, meeting experts and scientists and completing challenges throughout the week.

Class 4
This term our topic is Space. We began our topic by agreeing on questions, connected with space, we wanted answered. For example: How big is the universe? How does a rocket work? Is there life on other planets? When was the first moon landing? Why does the moon change shape?
In Literacy we are using ‘Hello? Is Anybody There? by, Jostein Gaarder to get us to think about where life comes from and explore the ideas behind the theory of evolution. We are also exploring the features needed to write a newspaper report and to help us we will look at how major news stories are reported.
In Science we will focus on light and shadows; the earth, sun and moon and the science behind water rockets. Just before half-term we are looking forward to putting on a science week, with support from Bideford College, which will include visits from various experts and lots of interactive activities for the children. The focus of the week will be ‘Sound’.
We have Games on a Monday and Friday, so children will need to have their kits in all week please. I would appreciate it if on those days children, who are unable to remove them, do not wear ear rings to school.
I look forward to a term where we continue to have fun and learn plenty.
Homework
I have explained to the children that homework is something they must take responsibility for. It is usually given out on Friday and due in on Tuesday. On Monday lunchtime I hold an informal Homework Club for any queries/difficulties they have. It will therefore help them if they try to complete their homework at the weekend. Thank you.
